What is an insulated conservatory roof made of?

Our insulated conservatory roof is made from solid aluminium panels with durable internal and external powder coated finish and a sophisticated internal insulation. They come in a range of standard colours and also available in over 150 special colours as well as a 10-year guarantee.

 

Why should i refurbish my conservatory with an aluminium roof?

It is estimated that there are over 3 million conservatories installed in the UK. Once, highly desirable in the 1980’s and 1990’s, many of these old structures are rarely used being considered by many homeowners too cold in the winter and too hot in the summer.

How much does a new insulated conservatory roof cost?

Each new conservatory roof is designed to fit your property. Every roof is bespoke, and therefore there is no set price. We offer a free technical survey, which allows us to measure your current roof. We will also work out how many new conservatory roof panels you’ll need. This allows us to give you a non-obligation quote.

 

Do I need planning permission to fit a new roof to my conservatory?

In most cases, the answer is no. We advise you to check with your Local Authority to make sure there are no planning restrictions or constraints.

 

Can you fit your insulated roof to a bespoke conservatory?

Yes.  All our roof panels are bespoke with no standard sizes held in stock.  This means our insulated roof is suitable for both standard conservatory roof designs, (Edwardian, Victorian, P-Shape, Lean-to, etc) as well as for conservatories that were originally a one-off design.

Every insulated conservatory roof is made to the precise dimensions of your existing conservatory, that we take when we carry out our survey. Your new conservatory roof panels then fit into your existing roof as a like-for-like replacement.

 

Why should I consider your solid roof over new polycarbonate or glass units?

Our insulated roof panels comprise 2mm thick aluminium skins inside and out, with up to 150mm of insulation between the outside and inside faces.  This insulation is far superior to the thermal properties of aluminium or glass units. It is also better insulated than polycarbonate or glass.

The thick thermal insulation in our insulated conservatory roof makes your conservatory, warmer in winter, cooler in summer, quieter and much more comfortable. Our aluminium roof panels also give you the colour choice not available with polycarbonate or glass.

In 2010, changes to the Building Regulations resulted in conservatories no longer needing to have a set level of translucency.  It is now possible to have a solid insulated roof to your conservatory.

 

Your insulated conservatory roof is aluminium.  Is it suitable for a PVCu conservatory?

Yes. Aluminium is now widely regarded as the superior material for durability, strength and colour choice. Our aluminium insulated conservatory roof works with any PVCu or timber conservatory.  

Look at the many panels fitted to facades, doors, and cladding, these are largely made of aluminium.

 

Won’t I get less light with a solid roof than I would with glass?

As your new roof is now solid and insulated, you will not get the light transmission you would with glass units.  However, the loss of light is not significant as conservatories have so much glazing to the sides.

Our insulated conservatory roof is no different from the latest generation of modular and constructed orangeries and glazed extensions, many of which use a composite solid roof or a fully tiled roof.

The benefit to you is less solar glare from above as well as a quieter and more comfortable conservatory.

 

How long does it take to fit my new insulated roof?

The length of time it takes to fit your new roof will depend on the size of the conservatory and the work involved.  In most cases we can improve your existing conservatory in just one day.

 

How easy are the roof panels to fit?

Our professional installers are highly trained to fit your new insulated aluminium roof within one day in the majority of cases.  Installation is easy with minimum disruption to you and your home. No scaffolding is required as the work takes place at ground level.

Our roof panels are designed to fit to any conservatory that is designed around the ‘rafter roof’ and suitable for aluminium, PVCu or timber structures.

Another advantage of our insulated conservatory roof is that your existing framework and conservatory structure will not need alteration or modification in the vast majority of installations.

 

How long will I wait for my new conservatory roof?

The lead time from receipt of an order will depend on the colour and other factors.  In most cases, we endeavour to fit your new roof between four to eight weeks.

What happens on the day of installation?

Our professional installers will remove your existing roof materials taking the utmost care of the existing roof bars, cappings and decorative pieces. Once the old roof panels are removed we will fit your new roof panels in accordance with our site survey.

In most cases ,there is no need for you to empty the conservatory of furniture and personal effects, but we will advise you of any internal work involved when we survey your existing conservatory.

 

What happens to my old roof materials when you fit my new insulated roof?

Whether your existing conservatory has original polycarbonate or glass units, we take your old units away and dispose of them professionally and in an environmentally friendly way.

 

What can help with a too hot, too cold conservatory?

The choices you have for helping with a too hot or a too cold conservatory vary, depending on your budget and the extent of the work you wish to do.

The simplest or easiest method is fitting high quality blinds in the roof and the conservatory windows and doors. There are many other options for conservatory insulation options, ranging from our own insulated aluminium panels to a fully tiled roof replacement which is the most expensive option and needs structural modification work to your conservatory. Our own Thermotec roof panels require no structural work and a typical installation takes about one day. The benefits are immediate.

How can I reduce heat loss from my conservatory?

With most of the heat lost through the roof, the best solution is to replace your dated polycarbonate or glass with one of the latest generation conservatory roof insulation materials.

There are many factors affecting heat loss in your conservatory, the most common being the early generation of poorly insulated materials. That's why our Thermotec insulated panels transform a conservatory with instant results, and take less than a day to fit, with minimal disruption to your home.

Will I save money on my energy bills

Yes. If you have a poorly insulated conservatory roof right now, the significantly thicker material we use, also having some of the lowest U-Values promises to provide a reduction in the energy used to heat your conservatory. Of course, the condition of your conservatory windows and doors plays a part, but you'll notice a major difference with our latest generation materials, compared with the inefficient polycarbonate or basic glass units you may have right now.
